Good Shepherd uses a series of Scripture readings that take us through the life of Jesus each year. The first year focuses on Matthew; the second year focuses on Mark; and the third year focuses on Luke. The Gospel of John is used in all three cycles. There is a Gospel reading, Epistle reading, Old Testament reading, and a psalm for each Sunday. We use two of the readings and sometimes the assigned psalm. We prefer to use two readings so that we can concentrate on them, and we often expand on the readings so that we can hear more of the context. To understand how this ancient practice began please read The Church Year.
