When Death Has Taken One We Love
The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.ย But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.ย 1 Corinthians 15:56-57 (ESV)
O Lord, death always reminds us that we live in a fallen world. We cannot avoid it, but we do not have to let it have control over us. Jesus confronted sin and death with His life and with His words. His death on the cross won for us the forgiveness of sin and ย the promise of eternal life. Help us to remember that those who follow Jesus will not be left in the grave. They are with Jesus in Paradise, and they and all who believe will be raised from the grave on the last day. Our destiny is not the cold, dark ground, but the new heavens and the new earth. Though we weep today, eventually we know that our sorrow will be turned to joy. Amen.ย
